GEORGE NEWS - Dancers from four local dance schools helped raise funds to sterilise about 100 domestic animals. A total of R54 000 will help the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) with mass sterilisation campaigns, to the benefit of Borcherds Paws and Cat Garden Route.
Dance Mosaic - Dancing for Dogs is a dance show initiated by Abbi Geldenhuys of the Abbi Geldenhuys Academy of Ballet (Agab), in collaboration with other dance schools.
This year marks the tenth production of the unique dance show fundraiser, with the next one planned for 2026.
The performances last weekend at the George Arts Theatre included dance items by Agab, Melissa Page School of Dance, Marlise's School of Spanish Dance, and gumboot dancers Siya and the Boys. All proceeds were in aid of animal welfare.
"The weekend went incredibly well," said Geldenhuys. "A large amount of food was donated by theatre-goers, while Dr Awie de Villiers from Vitalvet donated a box of food, a dog bed, leashes and other nice things."
Geldenhuys said she was very satisfied with the outcome of the shows. "The vibe in the dressing rooms backstage was just awesome, the audience all commented that the production was of a high standard, and that the energy of the dancers was really special. The lighting was also fantastic. The show ran smoothly, without any glitches."
VitalVet and Dotsure Pet Insurance are the sponsors of this event, while Jakkalsvlei sponsored the wine at the gala event. The food was by Delicious Monster.
