GEORGE NEWS - Sunday's racing at the George Lakes Yacht Club was for the Millenium Trophy (senior fleet) and the Toppies Trophy (junior fleet).
The first race also served as the Bart's Bash Race.
This is a worldwide sailing event where sailing clubs each sail their own Bart's Bash Race, commemorating Andrew (Bart) Simpson, an Olympic sailor who lost his life in a sailing accident.
The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation has also been formed to raise funds to promote sailing.
In view of the wide-spread destruction on the Caribbean islands, funds raised this year are to be directed to that area to rebuild grass-roots sailing programmes and to help the communities affected by hurricane Irma.
Results from these races are collated into a single database.

Nineteen boats pitched up to compete on Sunday, but a fresh southeaster provided conditions a bit too challenging for many. In the first race (Bart's Bash Race) there were 14 starters but only eleven finishers.
The conditions were good for Hans Delport on his Hobie 14 and he was able to pull well away from the rest, finishing a minute ahead.
In the senior mono hulls, up front was James Hellstrom on a Laser Radial and John-Marc and Joy Olivier on a Sonnet. These two were in close competition throughout the race and they finished a scant second apart.
The second race had fewer starters but they all finished the race. Once again Hans Delport was way in front by three minutes.
The Olivier Sonnet was also able to pull away from the rest, and the Laser Radials with David Laing had the initial lead, but he was passed by Osborne at the first gybe mark. James Vonk finished six minutes ahead of Sean, but this was still not enough to win on handicap.
Sean was the winner of both races.
James Hellstrom was the winner of the first race, ahead of John-Marc Olivier, with Robyn Hellstrom in third place. The Olivier Sonnet was the winner of race 2 ahead of Osborne and Laing. John-Marc and Joy Olivier are the overall leaders for the Millenium Trophy, which completes on 21 January next year.
