Also in attendance was Rob Wiese, father of Sam and the founder of the George Karate Club in the late seventies.
Sensei Jannie le Grange took over from him during 1982 and then headed the school in a more traditional direction with connection and affiliation to the International Okinawa Goju Federation in Japan.
After sport sanctions against South Africa were lifted in the early 90s, the club excelled in both traditional and sport karate.
Today, many of the Goju Ryu clubs in the Southern Cape lineage run through the George Goju dojo, as many of the instructors received training under the leadership of sensei Jannie.
