“We have to be consistent. I am asking a lot as I have only been here for two weeks, but we need more consistency. But now [the win] takes away the knife from the throat a little bit.”
But AmaTuks coach Shaun Bartlett was not mincing his words after the defeat. “When you are in this position you’re going to come in here every week and moan about officiating, but also the players need to take responsibility.
“I think I counted about 10 chances in the second half. If you can’t put one away you’re always going to have your backs against the wall.”
Philani Zulu, Maritzburg United’s winger, confirmed that the Team of Choice were not throwing in the towel, after they secured a 1-1 draw with Platinum Stars:
“We have to keep fighting, and every game we should play like it’s a final game.”
Coach Dan Malesela was worried about his team’s travel arrangements after Chippa United secured a late 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the Free State:
“We travelled seven hours on Saturday and I was very worried about the fatigue factor as there are no flights coming here to Bloemfontein from PE, so this win is very good for the boys. We did a lot of preparations, stretches and loosening up, and it paid off in the end.”
Meanwhile Pitso Mosimane explained how he is getting the best out of his Sundowns side, following last Wednesday’s victory over Orlando Pirates.
“It’s not about the quality of players, it’s about the mentality.
“The training attitude will dictate the playing attitude. If it was based just on quality, Chelsea would be top (in England) and Manchester City would win everything, but they are not. It’s not just about quality.”
After a 2-0 loss to Sundowns last week, Pirates head coach Eric Tinkler had this to say: “Tactically we had a plan, and if we followed it then we would have at least got a point.”
