GEORGE NEWS - It was a medal rush for the Eden Modern Pentathlon (MPA) athletes at the 2025 Modern Pentathlon and Tetrathlon South African Championships, held at Reddam House in Gauteng on 2 and 3 May.
In addition to the pentathlon, the event included a parallel tetrathlon competition for younger athletes, featuring swimming and laser run, which allowed for fencing and obstacle as optional disciplines.
To support the sport's growth, a dedicated fencing competition was arranged for the u.13 and u.15 age categories, giving these tetrathlon athletes valuable experience.
Eden's Minay Botha and Pieter Schoeman were named the best junior fencers in this category.
Eden athletes delivered exceptional performances. In the u.13 category, Keyla Douglas and Wanru Haasbroek each took gold.
In u.15, Minay Botha won bronze and Pieter Schoeman claimed silver.
The u.17 podium saw Duné Haasbroek earn bronze and Johan Schoeman take silver. Both athletes repeated these results in the u.19 category.

In the junior men's division, Josua Vorster dominated to secure gold, Daniel Kolver took silver, and Marco Erasmus finished fourth, while Mia Botha placed fifth in the u.19.
A special moment came when Daniel Kolver was officially awarded his Protea colours for 2024 in the u.19 pentathlon category - a proud milestone for both athlete and club.
Off the field, club stalwarts Mariaan Botha and De Wet Erasmus were certified as UIPM level 2 and 3 judges across six disciplines, while young athletes Mia and Marco earned their level 1 judge qualifications.
Eden MPA now turns its focus to the much-anticipated upcoming laser run, biathle and triathle world championship, scheduled to take place in Mossel Bay this December.
