GEORGE NEWS - As schools soon reopen for the new academic year, many learners in George will return to the classroom without basic necessities - including proper school shoes. A new local initiative is responding to this challenge by using music to impact young lives.
George-based gospel rapper Max Gozo has released a new single titled, Stap met geloof (Walk by faith), created specifically to address the need for school shoes.
The song features vocals by Xavier Veale, a South African artist currently performing in Spain, and was produced by Kamvelihle Dyasi, professionally known as Future6, who is originally from Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape and now based in George. The project was released in collaboration with MRREE Records.
Unlike a traditional music release, Stap met geloof is distributed as part of a social campaign. The song can be bought at R20 on Gozo’s official website, and every cent generated from sales is used to buy school shoes for learners in need, which will be donated to local schools in George.
Gozo is no stranger to using his platform beyond entertainment. His previous single, All I need, gained international traction last year and was playlisted on more than 80 radio stations worldwide. With Stap met geloof, the focus shifts closer to home - combining faith, music, and tangible action.
“This project is about responsibility,” says Gozo. “If music can move people emotionally, it should also move something practically. One song can become a pair of school shoes.”
He says the campaign transparent and accountable. "Stap met geloof is sold exclusively through my website at a price of R20 per song. All payments are processed via the platform’s digital sales system powered by YOCO, which provides a secure and traceable digital sales system. This allows for daily sales reports, giving a clear, auditable record of units sold and total proceeds generated.
"The project is ring-fenced so proceeds from the song are allocated solely toward the purchase of school shoes for learners in need. Once the shoes are purchased, proof of purchase and confirmation of delivery will be documented."
There will also be a public official handover of the shoes to various schools.
He calls on the wider community to participate by purchasing the song and sharing the campaign. “I believe that local collaboration can produce real outcomes,” says Gozo.
Five songs have been bought since the song went live yesterday.
