GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Two men were arrested for dealing in drugs when 350 Mandrax tablets were found in their possession.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team members were conducting patrols along the N9 when they spotted two suspicious-looking men at a hiking spot near the entrance to George on the Outeniqua Pass.
“The men, aged 32 and 35, were searched and found to be in possession of 350 Mandrax tablets. They were arrested for dealing in drugs,” he said.
In an unrelated incident, on Monday 9 October, Thembalethu police followed up information about an unlicensed firearm at a house in Mbewu Street, Zone 9, where a firearm and two rounds of ammunition were found.
Further investigation linked the firearm to a burglary that took place in the area last month. The accused, aged 23 and 26, were scheduled for a formal bail application yesterday, Thursday 12 October.
In Knysna, two women from Dam se Bos are behind bars after police found illicit drugs with an estimated street value of R135 000 and firearms in their possession.
According to Spies, members of the Knysna crime prevention unit were tipped off and executed a search warrant at the house.
“A search of the premises ensued which led to the discovery of 1 000 Mandrax tablets stashed in a plastic bag under the bed. The team proceeded to another area of the residence where they found three sachets with 300g of tik concealed behind a wooden panel. The members confiscated the drugs and arrested both occupants, women aged 27 and 51. They face a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Spies.
