NATIONAL NEWS - Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille says a report to council that indicated her three recent international trips would cost ratepayers R1 million is incorrect.
Last week the opposition cried foul that there was not enough oversight over her travel and that the costs could not be justified.
But de Lille says after reimbursements from her hosts, council would only be spending about half the amount indicated in the retracted report.
Last week, Eyewitness News reported opposition parties in council want to debate reports on the mayor’s travel costs and want feedback reports from the trips.
A report indicating travel costs for the mayor to the United States, Italy and Belgium was withdrawn from Thursday’s council meeting because it did not reflect deductions from reimbursements by hosts.
De Lille says the actual value of her international travel currently amounts to R585,000 and a further rebate is still awaited from another global organisation.
