The second model after the Crossland X to share the majority of it components with Peugeot following PSA’s buyout of Opel/Vauxhall form General Motors last year, the Grandland X, as previously reported, will initially go in sale with a choice of three models; base, Enjoy and Cosmo and powered by the same 121 kW / 240 Nm 1.6-litre PureTech turbocharged petrol engine as the Peugeot 3008.
Hooked to a six-speed automatic gearbox with drive going to the front wheels only, Opel claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.0 L/100 km, with emissions rated at 156 g/km. It has however confirmed that a 2.0-litre turbodiesel motor be added to the range next year, with the mill in Europe producing 130 kW and 400 Nm, and being mated to a Aisin sourced eight-speed automatic ‘box.
Measuring 4 477 mm in overall length with a wheelbase of 2 675 mm, height of 1 636 mm an width of 1 844 mm, the Grandland X offers up 514-litres of boot space or up to 1 652-litres with the 60/40 split rear seat folded, with Opel also claiming a kerb weight of 1 360 kg, making it one of the lightest crossovers in its class.
Of the models shown at the recent local media presentation in Johannesburg, only the Enjoy and Cosmo were present with notable standard items on the former being 17-inch alloy wheels, colour coded door handles and mirrors, daytime running LEDs with auto levelling headlights, leather wrapped steering wheel, the eight-inch Intellilink touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six-speaker sound system, dual USB ports, climate control, tyre pressure monitor, partial leather seats, one-touch electric windows all around and rain sense wipers.
On the safety front, the Enjoy boasts Auto High Beam Assist, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Hill Start Assist and an Interior Movement Sensor.
Building on these, the Cosmo comes equipped with Opel’s Adaptive Forward LED Lighting system, chrome exterior detailing, aluminium roof rails, diamond-cut black 18-inch alloy wheels, the same infotainment system but with satellite navigation, heated front and rear seats, kick-motion activated electric tailgate, heated steering wheel and a reverse camera. Driver assistance systems include those of the Enjoy, as well as Advanced Park Assist, Blind Spot Alert and a 360 degree camera system.
Optional on both models is a panoramic sunroof with the Cosmo also sporting a dual-tone roof option with black mirror caps. A total of ten colours are available; White Jade, Moonstone Grey, Pearl White, Topaz Blue, Golden Sunstone, Diamond Black, Amethyst Purple, Jasper Grey, Quartz Grey and Dark Ruby Red.
Standard on all three models is a five year / 120 000 km warranty and five year / 90 000 km service plan.
