According to reports, the Chinese owned Swedish automaker will breathe new life into the S40 moniker that preceded the V40 until 2012, with a new crossover, likely to be called XC20, set to arrive later also based on the CMA architecture.
While no further details have yet been revealed, Volvo has announced that it will be upping XC40 production at its plant in Ghent, Belgium, due to higher demand than initially thought.
“The XC40’s success has surpassed even our highest expectations. The small SUV segment is the fastest-growing segment in the industry now, and with these additional CMA-based models we expect to benefit further from that growth,” Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson said.
More details of the V40’s likely replacement will only be announced at a later stage the company has stated.
