The GT3 machine lived up to its promise of being BMW Motorsport’s top model for GT racing when it completed the fastest “unofficial” lap in GT cars at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday, 4 September. The car, driven by BMW works driver Jens Klingmann, completed a lap time of one minute and 41 seconds (1:41) around the 16-turn, four and a half kilometer anti-clockwise FIA graded circuit.
BMW South Africa has been hosting Schubert Motorsport and their BMW works supported car, the BMW M6 GT3, during the 2016 SA Festival of Motoring. As part of the festival, the car has been doing taxi rides (hot laps) with local motoring media and BMW customers around the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
The car is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which has been modified for use in motor racing. The power train has dry sump lubrication and generates up to 436kW – with the whole car weighing less than 1 300 kilograms. Moreover, with its centrally-positioned driver’s seat and long wheelbase, the BMW M6 GT3 offers a real racing car expereince.
