While the Avant version has already been spotted wearing minimal layers of disguise, the C8 generation A6 based RS6, if a recent report from motor1.com is indeed true, will mark the return of the sedan bodystyle since the C6 ended production in 2011, and according to Autocar, debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next year.
Like the Avant, power will come from a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, which will pack 445kW instead of the 485kW previously reported, while torque will go up from the current RS6 Performance’s 750Nm to 800Nm.
Underpinned by the same MLB Evo platform as the A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8 as well as other Volkswagen Group models like the Volkswagen Touareg, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus, the RS6 will tick the scales at some 80kg less than the current model, which will enable it to complete the 0-100km/h dash in 3.4 seconds before topping out at 310km/h.
A persistent rumour though is that the Performance model could go the way as the RS7 Performance, and link the aforementioned V8 mill with an electric motor similar to the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, whose setup produces 500kW/850Nm allowing it to dispatch the benchmark sprint in the same 3.4 seconds.
Arriving before the RS6 however, the S6 will swap the 4.0-litre motor for a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 that will make the same 331kW/550Nm as the S5, hooked to an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive.
