Although previous reports suggested that the long lost movie car might have had the incorrect Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), specialist Ford auctioneer, Kevin Marti, has confirmed that 8R02S125558, which was found earlier this month in a Baja California junkyard being turned into a replica of the Shelby GT500 Eleanor driven by Nicolas Cage in the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds, was indeed one of the two Mustangs used in the now iconic chase scene around the streets of San Francisco.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Marti stated that the discovered Mustang served as the so-called jumper car in takes requiring it to become airborne while chasing two of the black Dodge Charger 440 R/T's supplied for the film.

While one of the Chargers was famously blown-up after being forced off the road by McQueen in the film, the highly damaged second was subsequently scrapped allegedly along with the now rediscovered Mustang. The location of the Mustang hero car is unknown.
