GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year the car manufacturer Ferrari celebrates its 50th year of existence in South Africa, and for this milestone Ferrari club chapters from across the country and the world will descend on Knysna to commemorate the event.
According to chairman of the Garden Route Southern Equatorial Ferrari Automobili Club (Sefac) Alistair Gibb, this is the oldest Ferrari club outside of Italy.
"We have also invited the Ferrari presidents from 11 clubs worldwide who have already shipped their cars over to join us for the tour," says Gibb.
The anniversary will be held along with a tour starting from Johannesburg and ending in Cape Town. Gibb says the tour is set to start on Wednesday 27 September, reaching Knysna on Friday 29 September.
"We have more than 80 vehicles taking part, all arriving at different times in order not to cause too much of an issue with traffic. We will set off on a drive through Knysna starting on Leisure Isle," says Gibb.
The procession will then move along George Rex Drive, all along the Main Road, and then turn onto Waterfront Drive. It will end at the Knysna Waterfront.
Gibb says that due to possible traffic congestion, three groups of about 30 Ferraris at a time will travel through town and spend two nights in Knysna before moving on to their next destination.
Ferraris of all kinds will descend on Knysna on Friday 29 September for the car manufacturer's 50th anniversary in South Africa. Of the more than 80 cars expected, about 30 at a time will be allowed to drive in a procession through the town.
He adds that the tour will also act as a fundraiser for fire victims.
So, if you are a red-blooded Ferrari fan, or just love high-performance supercars, make sure you set yourself up along the route from 13:45 tomorrow for a sight Knysna might not see in a while to come.
Don't miss out on this rare opportunity...
