GEORGE NEWS - A World War II veteran and member of the George Moths, Abraham Phillip de Kock, passed away on 28 July at the age of 95.
De Kock, better known as Abe, served with distinction in No 12 Squadron of the South African Air Force as a pilot. He completed 43 combat missions in Marauder aircraft.
After the war he married Hermie and they had five children, four sons and a daughter. The family lived and farmed on Mooidraai in the Sasolburg area in the Orange Free State. De Kock served for some years as the president of the Angus Cattle Society and also as a judge at the Rand Easter Show. He was a Life President of the Witwatersrand Agricultural Society.
De Kock was a highly respected and venerated life member of both the Moth organisation and the SA Air Force Association.
"It is with much sadness that we have to record Abe's passing," said Pieter Viljoen, Deputy Old Bill of George Moths.
"In spite of all his achievements, Abe and his late wife Hermie were very humble people. They are sorely missed."
