GEORGE NEWS - The Herold's Bay Ratepayers Association (HBRA) on behalf of the Voëlklip task team has recently requested for all memorabilia to be removed from the Voëlklip area. 

This includes plaques, wreaths, crosses and other items that are normally found in cemeteries.

"Following consultation with the Western Cape Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works and the landowner, and receiving numerous complaints from the George and Herold's Bay community, a decision was taken to have all such items removed on the Voëlklip road verge including plaques, photographs, statues, crosses, and any other items placed in memoriam," said HBRA chairperson Ken Field.

This comes after the numerous incidents at Hansie se bank, the latest of which claimed the lives of two women, Nickey van Niekerk and Lesley Briscoe (both 75) from Krugersdorp, who drove over the cliff in a white Mazda on Saturday 20 February.

The public and persons affected by this decision are requested to kindly remove such items by not later than 1 June this year.

In the meantime, the task team that was established to look at options to address issues pertaining to the road is making good progress with the erection of barriers at various so-called hotspots along the Voëlklip road.
