GEORGE NEWS - The South Cape Association for Visual Arts (Scava) is joining hands with Ethnos Movement International through a sea-themed art exhibition in October where a percentage of the art sales will go towards a drug rehabilitation centre being established in Wilderness.
The Christian mission organisation, Ethnos Movement International, in collaboration with the Dutch Reformed Church Die Vleie that donated the land for the centre, is setting up 'The Lighthouse' rehabilitation centre.
It is aimed at helping young children and mothers who are addicted to a substance.
A small church building on the land that is now being renovated will be used for church gatherings and events, as well as presenting skills workshops. The vision is to also put up accommodation for the children and women.
Scava members are invited to participate in the art fund-raiser by presenting all artworks surrounding a 'sea' theme for consideration for this exhibition.
It will be held in the Sayers Auditorium of George Museum from 5 October to 1 November.
There will be no entry fee for pieces and no limit to the number of pieces that can be entered, although a selection process will be held.
Art intake will take place on 3 October at the museum. Art works can include lighthouses, seascapes, boats, fish, other marine life and seabirds, etc.
A portion of the selling price of each artwork will be donated towards the new rehabilitation centre in Wilderness.
Artworks may be submitted to Marisa de Lange. Contact her on 082 924 8163 or Marisa.delange777@gmail.com.
