GEORGE NEWS - Ludolph Pedro, Grade 10 learner at York High School, is the proud recipient of yet another Hennie Joubert Merit Prize. It is the sixth consecutive year that his outstanding performance in the Unisa examinations has earned him this prestigious prize.
Pedro started piano lessons as a Grade 2 learner at Holy Cross Primary School with Greta Benade. She identified and nurtured Pedro's talent at an early stage, and exposed him to various opportunities.
He received master classes from Professors Nina Schumann and Luis Magalhaes of the University of Stellenbosch, and Professor Joseph Stanford of the University of Pretoria.
He has obtained Roll of Honour (90% and above) for all his Unisa examinations, both practical and theoretical, since 2013, when he was nine years old. Only the top two candidates per grade qualify for this award.
His excellent results include:
- 97% for Unisa Pregrade 1 in 2013
- 98% for Unisa Grade 1 in 2014
- 96% for Unisa Grade 3 in 2016
- 97% for Unisa Grade 4 in 2017
- 96% for Unisa Theory Grade 4 in 2018
- 94% for Unisa Grade 7 practical in 2019
Following his excellent past results and accomplishments, Pedro decided that it would be a greater challenge to skip the Grade 5 practical examination.
He obtained 97% for theory Grade 5 under the guidance of Elmien Maree.
He is currently enrolled at Unisa for his final Grade 8 examination under the guidance of Greta Benade.
Pedro is a versatile learner and was recently elected as the mayor of the George Junior City Council. He is also the chairperson of the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) of York High for 2021.
