GEORGE NEWS - Two piano students of George teacher Greta Benade swept all before them in recent weeks. They showed their mettle at the George Young Musicians competition, the George Eisteddfod and the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod.
Steven Kapp (Grade 7) of Holy Cross Primary School and Ludolph Pedro (Grade 8) of York High School have a shared history of music starting at Holy Cross. Both started their piano lessons in Grade 2.
At the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod, their talent was also rewarded when both were invited to audition for the Prestige Concerts in 2017 as well as 2018.
At this concert held at the Bellville Civic Centre on 20 September, Ludolph performed Prelude in C# Minor by Rachmaninoff and Steven In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg.
Steven received two trophies and a bursary for his outstanding performance at the Eisteddfod, while Ludolph received three trophies.
Ludolph was the receiver of the outstanding performance bursary in 2017.
He also received the coveted Unisa Hennie Joubert Merit Bursary in 2018 for the fourth time, for being in the top two in his music grade in South Africa in the Unisa piano examination.
Both were invited to perform at the Festival Concert of the George Eisteddfod, Steven again thrilling the audience with the work by Grieg, while Ludolph played Winter Games by Foster. They were awarded the trophy for Instrumental Senior and Instrumental Junior respectively.
At the Young Musicians Competition, Steven was awarded first place overall in the primary school section and Ludolph was the joint winner of the piano trophy, sharing it with Nicole Moss, a Grade 12 pupil at York High.
