GEORGE NEWS - The University of the Third Age (U3A) is presenting another line-up of interesting talks during June.
In the Anthropology series, Fay Jones will present a talk on Ancient Orvieto on Thursday 6 June.
On Friday 7 June, join Russell Gammon on a spellbinding journey into Africa's past as he brings to life the most compelling story in Africa's history, the life of David Livingstone.
Born into poverty in a Glasgow slum in 1813, Livingstone would rise up to become 'the greatest man of his generation' and during a career that spanned 30 years in Africa, he would traverse over 28 000 miles of uncharted territory.
This story is inspirational and will give you a fascinating insight into Africa's often tragic past, but it will also keep you on the very edge of your seat as you follow this hero through trials and tribulations no ordinary man could endure.
So, join the U3A at 10:00 for tea and enjoy the talk which starts at 10:30.
Egypt tour
In Armchair Travel on 12 June, Hugo Leggatt will share the personalised tour of Egypt that he and his wife Helen took in 2010 as a birthday present to themselves. This includes a fascinating look at parts of Egypt off the tourist map, such as the oases in the region west of the Nile, as well as surviving a night sandstorm.
This talk starts at 10:30 and is surely one not to be missed.
Smaller group meetings will continue
Although the main lecture programme takes a break, the various smaller group meetings will continue and the coordinators will stay in touch with their members. Activities will be back to normal in July.
Russell Gammon will take his audience on a spellbinding journey into Africa's past with a talk on the life of David Livingstone.
