And judging by the reaction of the more than 250 guests who attended the Premier of Born to Win at the Garden Route Mall on Sunday, this is a must see.
The natural beauty of George and the Garden Route takes pride of place and every resident of this beautiful part of the country will relish the untold familiar and stunning scenes of the area they proudly call home.
Many extras were plucked from the public of George with Portfolio Councillor for Community Services Iona Kritzinger in the role of a hostel mother and several of the George Municipal traffic officials participating as well.
All movie lovers and especially those in the Garden Route are urged to see Born to Win within the next three days as the tickets sold over the first weekend of release determine how long the film will remain on circuit.
True story
Born to Win is based on the true story of Leon Terblanche, a teacher at a school for the physically disabled and the film is the brain- child of Director Frans Cronjè and Producer Cobus van den Berg. Terblanche finds himself confronted with the question: "Where is God?" and this sets him on the journey that shows how God turns the hurt, frustration and emptiness of a man into hope, faith and victory to inspire many to be the winners they were born to be.
Rising star Greg Kriek makes his debut in his first feature film playing the lead role of Leon Terblanche alongside leading actress Leoné Pienaar who plays Elmarie Terblanche. This is Leoné's second lead role in a feature film. Award-winning actors and actresses such as Sylvia Mdunyelwa-Kobus, Dorette Potgieter and Anrich Herbst are part of the cast together with Grace Sithole, Kwezi Kobus, Merlin Balie, Cobus Venter, Tim Theron, Leandie du Randt and the much loved Nadia Beukes.
Cronjé and Van den Berg managed to stretch the R4-million budget to look bigger than many multi-million productions. Filmed in 2013, the movie covers three decades: the 1970s, 1980s and 2000s.
In June of this year, the George Council pledged its support to the growth of the film industry in the George region, which will take the form of training programmes, a film festival and the marketing of the area as a film destination and a two year memorandum of agreement with the Cape Film Commission.
Director Frans Cronjè thanked the George Municipality for the cooperation he and his crew received with the logistical arrangements during the filming. George Mayor Charles Standers welcomed the guests saying it was a joy to work with the production team. "We believe that this film will go a long way in marketing George to the rest of our country and even internationally. The city of George will continue to market George as an international and local film destination and thereby support sustainable economic development, also by means of this industry."
Born To Win will be released in the USA and the rest of the world during the first quarter of 2015.
