GEORGE NEWS - With blood stocks in the Western Cape dropping to dangerously low levels, local service clubs and the George Service Clubs (GSC) are calling on residents to urgently roll up their sleeves and donate.
The GSC will be hosting a special blood drive this Friday, 12 December, at the GSC office, 117A York Street. The drive is open to all eligible donors, and organisers stress the urgent need for community support. It will take place from 11:00 till 15:00.
The blood drive is hosted in response to the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) confirming that supplies of O-negative, O-positive and B-positive blood are critically low, placing strain on hospitals and emergency services.
The call for action follows the launch of the “Blood Donation: Service Above Self” initiative. This is a partnership between several local service organisations aimed at boosting blood donations across the region.
The campaign highlights how one unit of donated blood can save multiple lives and encourages residents to become regular donors.
Friday’s blood drive poster includes all essential details, and GSC representatives have appealed to the public to spread the word as widely and quickly as possible.
“Every donation counts. With stocks critically low, especially for the universal donor group O-negative, we need the community to step forward,” the organisers said.
Residents are encouraged to attend the drive.
Bring identification, and allow a short amount of time to make a life-saving difference.
