GEORGE NEWS - The man who is accused of shooting a provincial traffic officer, Janneké Bergman, briefly appeared in the George Regional Court this morning, Friday 4 June.
It is alleged that Bonginkosi Ndevu (28) shot Bergman after she pulled him over on Beach Road, near the N2 near Pacaltsdorp on 7 August last year.
Ndevu was scheduled to hand in his plea today, but instead opted to appoint another legal representative.
Bergman was shot after she pulled over a silver Audi on the N2 near Pacaltsdorp. Ndevu, from Khayelitsha in Cape Town, was arrested when he was spotted walking along the highway. He allegedly opened fire on police and law enforcement who returned fire, wounding him. Ndevu was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Two firearms, one of which belonged to Bergman, and an undisclosed amount of cash was found in his possession.
He faces two charges of attempted murder as well as a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is scheduled to appear in court again on 2 July.
