GEORGE NEWS - No one was injured in an accident at about 05:20 this morning, Saturday 7 April, on the R404 near the intersection with the airport road (R102).
Capt. Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, says the driver of a Chevy Spark alleges that she was blinded by the headlights of an oncoming vehicle which caused her to collide with a Toyota Hilux bakkie.
A car was damaged in an accident in Nelson Mandela Boulevard near the Thembalethu bridge on Friday night, 6 April, at about 19:30.
According to Eden 911 there were no injuries.
Six drunken drivers were arrested during an alcohol blitz in the Western Cape yesterday, Friday 6 April. It was a combined effort of provincial and local traffic authorities and the police.
The highest blood alcohol reading was recorded in George (1,04 mg/1000 ml). A total of 920 drivers were tested for alcohol, according to Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa.
Africa says three people died on provincial roads yesterday: A pedestrian on the N7 at Potsdam in the Metro who was hit by a car, a passenger in a collision between a truck and a bakkie with a trailer near Ceres on the R46, and a driver in a head-on collision on the R43 near Stanford.
Two arrests for false documentation were made in George and Mossel Bay. One person was arrested in George for reckless and negligent driving, and another for possession of dagga and Chat in Somerset West.
A total of 1 142 drivers were stopped and 122 fines to the amount of R174 200 were issued. Thirty-two drivers will be prosecuted for speeding. The highest speed recorded was 143km/h in a 120 km/h zone at Beaufort West.
