Ninety-two teams entered and pushed on through the night on Saturday till 06:00 on Sunday morning, walking around the sport field at Carpe Diem to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors and in remembrance of those who have lost the fight against the illness.
"The spirit was wonderful and I think the circus theme contributed to teams and visitors forgetting about differences such as race, sex and age with the common factor and focusing on cancer and finding a solution. The survivors gave positive feedback about their tent and the luminaries ceremony was the highlight of the evening with the rest of the night being a true celebration of life."
Five Local Heroes of Hope were announced for the first time ever in George. They are: Allison Nezar, Annika Oosthuizen, Alisha Small, Heimi Esau and Merlyn Cooper Williams. They represent cancer survivors and will be carrying out a message of hope by sharing their story and leading the fight against cancer.
Potgieter thanked the many generous sponsors and everyone else involved in making the event a huge success, also those responsible for the security, the NMMU students who worked at the parking lot and provided children's entertainment, the committee members and every volunteer.
