PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - In an effort to reduce petty crime on Plettenberg Bay's beaches over the festive season, a unique keyless locker system has been launched to keep valuables safe while residents and visitors enjoy the beach.
"We are very excited to be the first to offer this service in South Africa," says Plett Tourism chief executive Patty Butterworth.
"As one of South Africa's leading beach destinations, safety and security of our guests is paramount. Commitment from the Bitou Municipality, Plett Tourism, the Plettenberg Bay Community Police Forum and our local business owners and residents has encouraged a safe environment. Liberty Lockers are offering an invaluable service to extend these efforts."
Liberty Lockers is a Plettenberg Bay-based company that provides secure, outdoor locker systems. Last week the company announced the launch of these lockers on two of Plett's popular beaches - Central and Robberg 5.
The company has created a keyless locker system that is brandable and also offers a USB recharging facility in each locker.
The round locker systems are fully solar powered, and the product is 100% proudly South African.
First-time users need to log onto the Liberty Lockers website, either by clicking on the QR code that will be displayed on the lockers or logging straight on to www.libertylockers.co.za. Users then book a locker by selecting a location and date range search.
A list of available lockers then appears, and users can book any locker from the list. Once payment has been made - which will range between R5 and R35 depending on the period - an SMS and e-mail are sent to the user, confirming location, date range and PIN number.
"We are definitely planning to expand and are anticipating many more sites on the KwaZulu-Natal coastline, as well as in Cape Town," said Liberty Lockers managing director Malcolm Katz.
