McLaren Circus offered such an opportunity to disadvantaged children last week by handing out 157 free tickets. LIFE Community Services seized the opportunity to bring their children to attend the matinée show on Friday.
The young ones clapped their hands in delight at seeing magnificent lions, camels, ponies and snakes in action. They shrieked with laughter at the clown’s antics.
The athletic prowess of the Velocity Boys from Zimbabwe was greatly admired.
A reader was highly concerned at witnessing an incident last week Thursday, during which one of the circus handlers was injured inside a cage in which lions were also present. According to the circus manager, Duncan McLaren, the worker had sustained a minor scratch whilst handling a baby tiger. He added that the incident had been grossly exaggerated. The tiger was not part of any live shows as it was too young to take part.
The circus is still here for another week at the Outeniqua Show grounds. For more information, contact 082 7475 726 or visit www.mclarencircus.co.za.

The children of LIFE Community Services received free tickets to the McLaren Circus on Friday. They were ecstatic at the clowning shenanigans of Alick Whatals and watched wide-eyed when spotting his son, Pakunda (5), who is a midget.
