GEORGE NEWS - Life Community Services held a thank-you breakfast for its volunteers and donors at Shofar Church last week Thursday, where marketing and funding officer David May shared the growth of the organisation and its vision for the future.
The Life Christian Academy (LCA) is showing tremendous growth and there is always a need for more capacity, he said. "We had to turn 30 kids away at the start of the year that we could not accommodate. Last year LCA enrolled 125 students. This year the school has 175 pupils and we have added Grade 4."
A special learning space is being created for the Grade 3 learners where they will be learning more about practical life skills such as gardening, cooking, needlework, recycling and more, and there are plans for a literacy centre at Life Village in Conville.
This will expand the offering of Life, which also has well-established early childhood development (ECD) centres and the Lighthouse After School and Education Centre.
"These children are the future of George and we encourage everyone to continue to partner with us. Those who are not yet a volunteer at Life, connect with us and see how you can be of assistance. It can be only one hour a week of your time," said May.
"You are guaranteed to experience personal growth as you come to know the organisation and the kids. I thank you for what you are doing, but I want to push you and ask you, 'What is your next step?' We are reaching only about 5% of children in the community. Why can't we reach 100%? Let's enlarge our space.
"Our vision for 2020 is to have sponsorships for 20 children that will cover their food, health needs and education for a year. Please consider sponsoring a child."
