GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS & VIDEO - South Africa's municipal elections will be held on Monday 1 November to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces.
These will be the sixth municipal elections held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994 – municipal elections are held every five years.
On Election Day, voters will receive three ballot papers on which they have to indicate their choice of a ruling political party for their residential ward, their local municipality and their district municipality.
Before you make your way to your voting station, be sure you have your ID document. If you don’t have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card, you’ll need to have a temporary ID from home affairs.
Pens will be provided at all voting stations, but voters are welcome to bring their own (black) pens.
All voting stations will be open from 07:00 to 21:00.
If you incorrectly mark a ballot paper and realise this before placing the paper in the ballot box, just ask the Presiding Officer for a new ballot paper. Please make sure that the incorrect ballot paper is marked as "cancelled". Once your ballot has been placed in the ballot box, it can't be removed.
