GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Knysna police confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R90 000 during a mid-week crime operation after acting on information from the public.
On Wednesday 13 August at about 20:15, members of the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit raided a container operating as a barber shop.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, a search of the premises uncovered 65 bankies of dagga.
Follow-up investigation led officers to a house in Hlalani, near Nekkies, where they discovered a black bag containing more dagga. In total, just over 11kg of dagga was seized.
"A 24-year-old woman and two men, aged 26 and 29, were arrested and face charges of dealing in drugs," said Spies.
In a separate incident at about 18:20 the previous day, Da Gamaskop police intercepted a vehicle near a scrapyard in Sampson Street, Mossel Bay, following a tip-off about stolen copper cables. Cables valued at about R20 000 were found in the vehicle. A 51-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
Meanwhile, Laingsburg police arrested two men in Second Street in the early hours of Thursday 14 August, after finding 24 bankies of tik and a quarter mandrax tablet in their possession. Both suspects face drug possession charges.
All those arrested remain in custody and are expected to appear in court once charged.
Cables valued at about R20 000 were found in the vehicle. A 51-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
