GEORGE NEWS - The fourteen dancers who were chosen to represent the Abbi Geldenhuys Academy of Ballet at the Nelson Mandela Bay Dance Eisteddfod this coming weekend, are on the road to Gqeberha today, 24 August.
"These students have been rehearsing since February for this prestigious event with 'Dance Mosaic - Dancing for Dogs', providing a great warm up performance," said Geldenhuys. All the groups choreographed for the eisteddfod were staged in 'Dance Mosaic' at the George Arts Theatre earlier this year.
Geldenhuys' academy has entered five groups and 19 solos, including ballet, demi character and contemporary.
As the newly appointed dance director for the George Eisteddfod, she is excited about the new dance section that will be launched next year.
"However, I have been longing to take my pupils to a large-scale eisteddfod outside the Garden Route for a while now, to give my students the experience and exposure," she said and added, "we are very thankful for Jan-Eric Swart of the George Eisteddfod for their sponsorship for accommodation."
