146 of South Africa's best young surfers, aged 20 and younger, took part in the series in seven age divisions.
This Series was sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, a member of SASCOC and the Internationl Surfing Association (ISA).
A few local surfers were also in action. Kayla and Michelle Verreynne, both pupils at York High, took part in the u.16 and u.20 Divisions; Roxy Giles also in the u.20
Division and brothers Viviers and Jandre Strydom in the u.10 and u.12 Boys Divisions.
In the highly contested Girls u.16 Division Kayla Verreynne went all the way and after ousting several of the event seeds, she won her semi-final and ended third in the finals, earning herself valuable PST Points, prize-money and prizes. She cmpetede against SA Junior Team surfers like Crystal Hulett (St Francis Bay), national seed Anoush Zakarian (Melkbostrand), Teal Hogg (Durban), Olivia Brand (Umlodi) and Kai Wolff (Jeffreys Bay).
Michelle Verreynne and Roxy Giles both advanced to the quarter and semi-finals.
Viviers Strydom came fourth in the u.10 finals. These boys made history by being the first in this age to reach the finals in solid three to four waves without assistance from their coaches.
Jandre Strydom advanced to the quarters in a very competitive u.12 Boys Division with seeds like Saxton Randall (Durban), Max Elkington (Hout Bay) and York Van Jaarsveldt (Kommetjie). Kayla, Michellle and Roxy will also be taking part in the Billabong Junior Series at Nahoon Beach, East London, this weekend.
