GEORGE KARATE NEWS - Aiming to offer children a wholesome activity while steering them away from anti-social activities, drugs and alcohol abuse, Mzimkhulu Maloyi started the Shoshin Kai Karate Club in Thembalethu five years ago in 2016.
Maloyi's Shoshin Kai Karate Club is currently using Tyholorha Primary School, where he is the caretaker, as venue for karate sessions.
Training takes place Mondays to Thursdays from 16:00 to 17:00 and the registration fee for club membership is a once-off payment of R200 per year. Children eager to join must be accompanied by their parents when they join the club.
Maloyi (43), who has a 3rd Kyu Brown belt grading, requests the wider George community to support the club with donations and sponsorship. "I would like to get more kids and members. Please support the club. Karate teaches children discipline and responsibility. This is the future of our kids, let's help them," says Maloyi.
nAccording to Believeperform.com, evidence of the effectiveness of martial arts in producing effective, cognitive and behavioural benefits has come from a number of studies. Improvement in
self-esteem, a more positive response to physical challenges, greater autonomy, emotional stability and assertiveness coupled with reduction in anxiety and depression have all been associated with martial arts training.
Konzak and Boudreau (1984) have also drawn attention to the particular relationship between martial arts practice and reduced aggression.
