Update
GEORGE NEWS - A three-year imprisonment sentence, suspended for five years, was handed down to Chantelle Kyd (36), a former financial clerk, in the Thembalethu Regional court last Friday, 9 February.
Kyd will do three years of correctional supervision, with certain conditions applicable, at the Thembalethu and Conville library.
Magistrate Eugenia Jacobs found the former financial clerk of Thembalethu Primary and later Dellville Park Primary schools guilty on 66 charges of fraud involving R330 000.
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Magistrate Jacobs said Kyd continues to claim innocence on all 66 charges despite the overwhelming evidence laid before the court, which indicates that it would be difficult for a person to be rehabilitated.
However, the court believes she can still make a positive contribution to society, as the officials from the education department were surprised at her actions saying she was a good person.
Jacobs said that since Kyd left the schools where she worked, she hasn't been involved in any untoward financial transactions.
The financial transactions happened in 2011/2012.

The court thanked the probation officer for her comprehensive report, detailing Kyd's personal circumstances that highlighted that she comes from a stable background, save for her estranged husband who hasn't formed part of her life or the lives of their children since 2012.
The court considered arguments in mitigation from both the state and defence in reaching her decision.
Kyd's attorney, Winston Jansen from Nico Smit Attorneys, also confirmed that he has no instructions pertaining to an appeal.
