NATIONAL NEWS - Two transformers have still not been replaced since it caught fire at the Brakfontein substation a year ago.
The station is situated at the corner of Rooihuiskraal North and Lenchen Avenue.
Local ward councillor Cindy Bilson said this has led to consistent power outages in the areas of Thatchfield, The Reeds, Rooihuiskraal, Heuweloord, Amberfield and Wierda Park.
“It has become a huge frustration within the community. It has been affecting the area for quite some time now,” said Bilson.
“The remaining transformers do not have the capacity to provide power to the areas that have been without power,” she added.
She has requested a meeting with Tshwane City manager Makgorometje Augustine in order to discuss this ongoing issue.
Councillors Marika Kruger Muller, Kingsley Wakelin, Casper Macdonald and Johan Jansen made similar requests directed at the Regional director of region four.
The date for a public meeting has been set for Tuesday, 18 February at 18:00 at Hoërskool Uitsig.
Political and mayor representative of Environment and Agricultural Management in region 4 in Centurion, councillor Dana Wannenburg confirmed the meeting.
He said he will be steering the issue to ensure the meeting will take place as requested by all the councillors applicable.
“Various parties such as bulk services will be present in order to discuss the situation at hand and any possible solutions for the future.”
Questions like what maintenance will be put into place to prevent power outages, how will power failures be managed and whether there are any plans for an upgrade to the station or the replacements of the burned-out transformers, will be raised.
