Speaking to Britain’s Autocar at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Honda’s European Operations boss, Tom Gardner, said the move forms part of the automaker’s aim to employ electric power in all of its models by 2025.
“Since we made that first pledge in March 2017, the shift towards electrification has gathered pace considerably. Environmental challenges continue to drive demand for cleaner mobility. Technology marches on unrelenting and people are starting to shift their view of the car itself,” Gardner said.
According to the publication, the decision comes as a result of the popularity of the hybrid CR-V introduced last year as a replacement for the discontinued diesel model, which currently makes up 60% of all CR-V sales in the United Kingdom. Along with CR-V and the e Prototype city car, previously known as the Urban EV concept, Honda will re-introduce the Jazz Hybrid when the next generation reportedly arrives later this year on in 2020, followed by the all-new Civic in 2021.
