Earlier this month, it was reported that the new M3, reportedly debuting in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will come in both rear and xDrive all-wheel drive layouts, with the former, together with a six-speed manual gearbox, set to be reserved for the so-called ‘back-to-basics’ Pure model.
According to supposed model information from the bimmerpost.com online forum however, the range will be made up of the Pure, the standard M3 outfitted with xDrive and the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox, and the M3 Competition using the same drivetrain.
In addition, the blog entry further claims that the Pure and regular M3 will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels at the front and 19-inches at the rear, while the Competition will have 19s at the front and 20-inches at the rear. An M differential and Adaptive M suspension will be standard on all models, though the Competition will have the option of carbon ceramic brakes.
As mentioned however, the biggest revelation is that the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six will come in three power outputs with the Pure set to produce 331kW, the same as the outgoing Competition Pack, the standard M3 353kW and the Competition 373kW from the all-new internally designated S58 motor that will also power the X3 and X4 M. Possibly arriving in 2021, BMW will add a CS variant with a reported 395kW, and a CSL packing 410kW.
