The manual begins with an introduction to off-roading concepts that allows one to grasp the theory of this technical activity.
It then moves on to the Jeep four-wheel-drive systems available and explains both the capability and restrictions of the different systems available. For instance, the differences between Command-Trac, Rock-Trac, Select-Trac II, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II found on various models, have been tabulated. This not only helps new buyers in the decision-making process when it comes to buying a Jeep, but also tells current drivers exactly what their current system contains.
There’s also a ‘Hitting the Trail’ section which aims to provide the budding and experienced 4x4 enthusiast with helpful hints and tips. These include how to approach certain obstacles and how to react on different surfaces such as water, mud, ice, rocks or loose sand.
The last chapter is called “Mixed Grille” and as its name suggests it is an assortment of information that ranges from great trails in the USA to the history of Jeep. It even contains a section about tyres, which explains what each symbol on a tyre means as well as which tyres are best for each situation.
In conclusion, the guide offers an Eco section that provides tips on how to use your Jeep in the wild without damaging the natural surroundings, something which Jeep drivers need if they intend to seek out adventure in the future. The book is available from selected Jeep dealerships or directly from the author on jacqui@netactive.co.za for R250 (excluding delivery).
