As evident by the spy images dating back a year, the e Prototype differs slightly from the concept shown in Frankfurt two years ago, with the key differences being a switch to five doors with the rear handles hidden in the C-pillar, pop-out front door handles, round taillight clusters and a prominent bonnet bulge that serves as the actual charging point. Carried over from the concept though are the square tailgate, oval headlights, black panel in place of the grille and most surprisingly, the side-mounted cameras serving as mirrors.
Paying homage to the original Civic like the concept, the recently shown interior incorporates a full-length digital display for the instrument cluster and infotainment system mounted on the wood finished dashboard, though Honda has added a number of physical buttons and indeed traditional air vents to go with the minimalist look.
The wood theme continues at the base of the facia around the buttons reserved for the transmission, while the actual ventilation controls dominate the centre console with the middle being reserved for the USB, Aux and HDMI ports. A closer look also reveals a red starter button, what appears to be a sport suspension switch located behind the Drive button and tweed covered seats.
Unsurprisingly, Honda has not revealed much of the drivetrain, merely stating that the e Prototype will be rear-wheel drive, have a range of 200km and able to be charged up to 80% from flat in 30 minutes.
As previously reported, the e Prototype will enter production later this year with sales commencing in 2020.
