While the production version of the revived Eight is only expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the almost ready concept, as per BMW, is said to prove that "razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand".
Riding on a set of lightweight 21-inch alloy wheels, the concept 8-series adopts subtle styling hints derived from the 2013 Gran Lusso Coupe concept, but with a sleeker overall appearance and "a fresh interpretation of iconic BMW styling cues".
Finished in an exclusive Barcelona Liquid Grey hue, the concept features a flowing elongated bonnet and concave oversized kidney grille, with super-slim laser headlights, carbon fibre splitter and prominent air intakes integrated into the front wings. Flared wheel arches, dual trapezoidal exhausts and a lowered roofline complete the look.
In a departure from BMW's current interior layout, the 8-series adopts a modern yet minimalist appearance said to have been created with the task of driving in mind.
Boasting extensive use of carbon fibre, hand-polished aluminium steering wheel spokes, sport seats trimmed "in the finest leather" and with carbon fibre shells, anodised red shift paddles and a digital instrument cluster, the concept also gains an integrated iDrive infotainment display with the obligatory round dial controller and gear lever made from Swarovski glass with a smokey quartz finish.
No drivetrain details were announced, but as the 8-series is expected to use the same CLAR platform as the 5-and-7-series, engines will likely mirror that of the latter and consist of turbocharged six and eight cylinder units, while the rumoured M8 could get the same 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 as the M760Li xDrive.
