GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The government has issued a stern warning to the public about not sending voice notes, tweeting or posting messages that may incite public violence.
This is a criminal offence punishable by a fine and or imprisonment of up to three years. In the wake of the recent looting and violence, every attempt is being made by police to track and trace the perpetrators.
JMPD spokesperson Supt Wayne Minnaar said, “If anyone becomes aware or knows of a person sending such messages, please inform the police as soon as possible. We cannot and must not standby idle and allow criminal elements to cause havoc in the City.”
“The City’s metro police continue to be on high alert and are working with the SAPS to restore order and make arrests. This is also not the time for hoax calls and spreading fake news,” he said.
In Johannesburg, most areas remained calm, with residents taking a stand against looting. Most City services have resumed.
