GEORGE NEWS - Nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers are invited to take part in the Strandwacht Hike, a guided coastal walk between Wilderness and Sedgefield aimed at supporting a rewilding initiative focused on combatting alien invasive plants.
Hosted by SO Afrika, the hike follows the scenic route from Paradise Ridge to Sedgefield, offering participants a 14km beach walk that takes between 3.5 and 5 hours to complete.
Transport options can be arranged for participants, including a George shuttle to and from the hike, as well as transfers via Wilderness and Kleinkrantz. The hike concludes at Pili Pili Restaurant, where hikers have the option to enjoy a meal or pre-arranged braai.
Several hiking options are available in January, including a moonlight hike on Saturday 3 January starting at 18:00, as well as two daytime hikes on Monday 5 January starting at 07:00 and Wednesday 7 January at 08:00.
A donation of R250 per walk is suggested. The shuttle services are delivered at an additional cost.
All funds raised will go towards sustaining the rewilding initiative, which aims to restore natural ecosystems along the coastline by addressing invasive alien vegetation.
Members of the public interested in joining the hike or supporting the initiative may contact SO Afrika on 074 055 9705.
