GEORGE NEWS - Police confirmed this afternoon, Sunday 3 November, that rumours of a murder investigation into the most recent Voëlklip incident, where a mother and her two children went over a cliff, are false.
"At this stage no crime is suspected. All possibilities are being investigated, but at present only an inquest has been opened," Capt Malcolm Pojie, Southern Cape police spokesman, told the George Herald.
Heidi Scheepers and her children, Hugo (2) and Cozette (6), went missing on Tuesday 22 October after what was meant to be a quick visit to Herold's Bay beach, a popular beach not far from their home in Oubaai.
Hugo and Heidi's bodies have since been recovered from the water, but Cozette is still missing.
Although police and rescue divers have scaled down the search operation they have appealed to fishermen and surfers to be vigilant when in the water.
A memorial service will be held for Heidi and Hugo this coming Saturday at Eden Place church. The time still has to be confirmed.
