"I was in York Street in the left lane turning left into Langenhoven Road when the truck, which was also turning left in the centre lane, converged on my lane.
"I saw these massive tyres coming towards my little Fiat Uno and I had nowhere to go."
The driver, Willem Oliphant, from Danielskuil in the Northern Cape, said he did not see the Uno in his rear-view mirror as she was travelling behind a taxi. "I need two lanes to turn; you can't try and squeeze in next to me. That is why I put my indicators on at least a block before turning," he said.
Oliphant added that since the Blanco/airport road is closed for construction he has no alternate route to use. "I have to come through town to get to the N9."
A traffic official said that interlink trucks should always be given a wide berth and, no matter how frustrated you get, you should not try and take a gap.
