GEORGE NEWS - If you've ever visited the Garden Route District Police Commissioner's offices in Plantation Road, chances are you've already met Miles (aka Luke) - the charming cross-breed who's captured the hearts of police officers and staff alike.
Miles didn't arrive with a badge or a title, but he has become a beloved fixture at the district offices over the last two years.
Originally owned by a nearby resident, this determined escape artist started showing up regularly, until his visits became a daily routine.
Eventually, his original owner accepted that the sociable Miles had chosen his second home, and it just happened to be with the police.
"For about two weeks, he was in and out of here every day," says Constable Mike Taylor. "Then one day, he just followed me home."
Since then, Taylor has officially adopted Miles, though the dog seems to have kept both 'homes' in his routine.
"He sleeps at home every night, but every morning we let him out, and off he goes to work at the district offices, which are just up the road," Taylor says with a smile.
"By 16:00 he's back at the gate, waiting for us. It's like he's clocking out from a shift."

Captain Carmen Elliot, one of Miles' favourite humans, says he is a very friendly dog towards people and other dogs. Now Miles has made himself right at home.
In some offices, beds have even been put down for him. The officers take turns feeding him, sneaking him treats, and ensuring he's taken care of. He also received a recent dose of tick and flea medicine.
But Miles' adventures haven't been without drama. A while ago, he had a brush with the law himself when he was spotted trotting along Plantation Road. A concerned resident called the Garden Route SPCA, which came to fetch him.
That's when Taylor stepped in and adopted him officially from the SPCA, making sure Miles could continue his daily visits as an honorary member of the force.
Elliot says Miles has had a real impact on everyone at work.
"He knows exactly where to come in. If one door is closed, he goes to the next one. He has done a lot for the morale of my colleagues and me, and most of us love Miles. This is his home."
Miles may not wear a uniform, but in the hearts of these police officers, he's as much part of the team as any officer on duty.
