GEORGE NEWS - A transgender 25-year-old Miss SA 2025 contestant from George hopes to transform lives and the beauty pageant landscape through her participation in this national beauty contest.
Jade Sateria describes cracking the top 30 as “a door blasted open for every kid who feels erased”.
Her advocacy for women and LGBTQIA+ youth burns fiercely. Sateria describes her life as a “raw, radiant testament to overcoming rejections and claiming worth”.
Holding a BA in Communication Science from the North-West University and a Master’s Certificate in Journalism from Agence France-Presse, Sateria anchors news at RSG. Yet her heart beats for the sole purpose of showing every marginalised child they belong.
Sateria says she was that child; scolded, abused, told she was nothing because of her sexual orientation - because she dared to be herself. She said her pain fuels her mission.
“I’m not here for a crown. I’m entering Miss SA 2025 because I want that small-town boy, that girl called too dark, too different, to know they’re enough. I’m doing this for them, for me.” She recalls a childhood spent fighting to be seen.
As a programme director at New Dawn Park Primary School, leading the (B:630) Education and Discipline Improvement Initiative, Sateria has transformed young lives.
Miss SA 2025 contestant Jade Sateria strikes a proud pose.
She has also served on Cape Town NGO Pascap Trust’s board since 2012, where she contributes towards crafting afterschool havens for kids. She also spent nine years acting and directing, producing two theatrical works at North-West University’s Divaco arts society - a testament to her love of creating.
Sateria envisions a South Africa where unity triumphs division. “I'm fighting for me, myself and I - a woman who’ll shatter ceilings to protect children, to end injustice,” she said.
Silencing critics who say she does not belong in the Miss SA pageant, she challenges them to say whatever they want and reminds them that she has faced worse and is still here.
“I know the crown isn’t the prize, it’s the chance to rewrite history. I was told I’d never be enough, but every step I take now proves those critics wrong.”
She proclaims her reason for entering is to show the world nobody decides your worth but you. “My story isn’t glamour, it’s grit.”
