GEORGE NEWS - When you combine a deep love for animals with a God-given talent, nothing can stand in your way.
This is the message that Sandy Moir from George shares with others.
From her home in Victoria Heights, Sandy creates dog beds and a variety of handmade bags that she sells at shops in town.
But one day, she had an idea - why not combine her creativity with her passion for animals and donate her products to animal charities? However, making quality pet beds isn't cheap, especially when it comes to the costly filling.
Determined to find a solution, Sandy put her problem-solving skills to work. She began collecting old sponge, cushions, fabric scraps, and other donated materials to craft pet beds for animal welfare.
Using offcuts from any kind of material and batting, she sews durable outer covers, while the inner cushions are filled with repurposed materials.
The design allows the outer cover to be easily removed and washed, making the beds both practical and sustainable.
Thanks to generous community donations, Sandy has already given beds to Odin and Marileen Greeff of Borcherds Paws. But there is still a great need, and she hopes to continue making beds for animals in shelters and foster care.
"I can't do this without our community's support," Sandy says.
"If you have any old sponge, filling, pillows, linens, sheets, or towels - anything I can use - I would be more than happy to collect it, or you can drop it off at the Odin charity shop in Doneraile Square. Every little bit helps, and together, we can give comfort to the fur babies who need it most."
