GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A total of 362 suspects were arrested during concerted efforts by Eden Cluster Police in the Garden Route District from Friday to Sunday morning, 3 to 5 September.
Of these, 268 were arrested for various criminal offences, ranging from petty to contravention of Covid-19 regulations and other serious crime.
On Saturday 4 September, members of the George Crime Prevention Unit acted on a tip-off received about a stolen Toyota bakkie possibly on its way to George.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the bakkie was stolen in Ladismith earlier the day.
"While patrolling in Knysna Road, members saw a suspicious-looking man hiking towards Knysna. They stopped and interrogated the suspect who was found to fit the description of the person who allegedly stole the bakkie. Upon further investigation the suspect took the members to the CBD where he pointed out the location of the bakkie," said Pojie.
The suspect was arrested and the bakkie handed in as evidence. The suspect (39) from Hoekwil has been transferred to the Ladismith Police holding cells and is scheduled to appear in court on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
On Friday evening, police mem-bers, assisted by the George and provincial traffic departments, executed stop-and-search operations in and around George where they pulled over various motorists.
During this operation a 42-year-old man was arrested after a moderate amount of tik was found in his possession.
Two suspects, aged 41 and 34, were arres-ted after black bags full of dagga were found in their possession and two other men were arrested when khat was found on them.
Black bags with dagga were confiscated.
