GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS & VIDEO - Blood stock levels in the Western Cape tend to decline during the festive season.
One reason could be that regular blood donors go on holiday and perhaps do not attend their blood donation clinic. Covid-19 continues to add additional pressure to the blood supply.
“We would like to appeal to all eligible blood donors to give the biggest gift by donating blood and saving up to 3 lives,” says Marike Gevers, public relations manager at WCBS. “We need to maintain a 5-day blood stock level in order to supply the Western Cape with a sufficient blood supply."
Today the service is launching its ‘We have so much to give’ campaign.
This campaign will be launched on all its social media channels. It showcases videos of blood donors inspiring others to donate blood and recipients thanking donors for the remarkable act of blood donation.
“You can do so much more than live. You can save lives,” says Gevers.
“Visit our social media channels on: Facebook The WCBS, Twitter @The_WCBS, Instagram @thewcbs “
If you are between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh 50kg or more, are in good general health, lead a safe sexual lifestyle, you should be able to donate. Blood donation takes 30 minutes of your time and you can donate every 56 days. To find your closest blood donation clinic, download the WCBS app on Android and iOS, send the service a WhatsApp on 060 549 7244 or visit www.wcbs.org.za for more information.
We have so much to give. Do something remarkable, donate blood.
