GEORGE NEWS - Three fraud suspects were arrested at a fuel station in Nelson Mandela Boulevard at about 16:00 on Friday 22 July.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, the driver of a Toyota Quantum bus attempted to drive away when he and the other suspects were approached by police officers. Police however forced him to stop and searched the vehicle.
Four 25-litre containers filled with fuel, an undisclosed amount of money, bank cards and the Quantum bus were confiscated. The three, aged 25, 29 and 31, were arrested and are scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on a charge of fraud later today, Monday 25 July.
Over the weekend the Conville crime prevention unit and the Eden Cluster crime combatting team confiscated significant amounts of tik and Mandrax from suspects in the area. More detailed information about these incidents are being awaited from the police.
Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt-Gen Thembisile Patekile, has praised the members for their dedication to safeguard communities within their area.
“The confiscation of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during this weekend also contributed to the prevention of serious crime such as murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” he said.
“Their vigilance and commitment to bring these perpetrators to book is greatly appreciated. Combined and integrated operations will continue throughout, with the focus to safeguard Western Cape communities against the scourge of drug addiction and serious and violent crimes, including gender-based violence,” Patekile said.
